Όταν βέβαια έχεις υποψήφια την Μια Μάχη Μετά την Άλλη με το αλύπητο κόστος και τις πλάτες της Warner Bros. δεν μπορείς να αποκαλείσαι θεσμός τιμής ανεξάρτητων παραγωγών, ωστόσο στον πυρήνα τους τα Gotham εξακολουθούν να έχουν το μεράκι τους με τις «μικρές» ταινίες. Έχουν πάντως αφαιρέσει την ρήτρα «35 εκατομμύρια δολάρια οροφή προϋπολογισμού». Οπότε το βραβείο της Καλύτερης Ταινίας το πήρε η ταινία του Άντερσον. Ενδέχεται να μην έχει πολλά ακόμα στο διάβα της - βραβεία, όχι υποψηφιότητες.

Το άλλο θέμα είναι βέβαια ότι τα βραβεία είναι...αμερικάνικα. Όπερ σημαίνει θα δεις κάποια κάπως παράξενα - ως ελεύθερος σκοπιμοτήτων θεατής. Δηλαδή θα δεις ξεκάθαρη υποστήριξη στην ταινία του Τζαφάρ Παναχί, που κατακρίνει το κακό για τους Αμερικανούς (και την Ελευθερία) Ιράν, αλλά όχι και για το «Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk», αφού εκεί υπάρχει και το θέμα του Ισραήλ (που το χρειαζόμαστε ολίγον τι και στην περίπτωση του Ιράν) και οι αποστάσεις γίνονται σχετικότερες. Ας πούμε με ασφάλεια ότι το καλλιτεχνικό κριτήριο είναι κάπως δεύτερο σε μερικές βραβεύσεις.

Η ταινία του Παναχί, «Ένα Απλό Ατύχημα» ήταν ο μεγάλος νικητής της βραδιάς, με τρία βραβεία, Διεθνούς Ταινίας, Πρωτότυπου Σεναρίου και Σκηνοθεσίας. Στις (όχι και τόσο) εκπλήξεις ήταν το προαναφερθέν Ντοκιμαντέρ, όπου επικράτησε το «My Undesirable Friends: Part I – Last Air in Moscow», της Τζούλια Λόκτεφ (ξανά διαφαίνονται πολιτικοί λόγοι), ενώ στο Διασκευασμένο Σενάριο πρυτάνευσε το «Pillion» του Χάρι Λάιτον. Αν ο Πολ Τόμας Άντερσον δεν παίρνει εδώ ούτε το Σενάριο, δεν ξέρω πόσες ελπίδες μπορεί να έχει για το Όσκαρ.

Στις ερμηνείες τιμήθηκαν οι Σοπέ Ντιρσού («My Father's Shadow») στην πρωταγωνιστική, Γούμι Μοζάκου στην υποστηρικτική («Sinners») και Αμπού Σανγκαρέ στην κατηγορία πρωτομεφανιζόμενου («Souleymane's Story»), ένας τριπλός θρίαμβος αφρικανικής καταγωγής και στέμμα των Gotham που δεν θα κατηγορηθούν (φέτος) για έλλειψη συμπερίληψης.
